Roma 1-2 AC Milan – Highlights

A trip to face Jose Mourinho’s Roma has never been easy, but Stefano Pioli’s men made the most significant statement this season as they put two against the host, with both goals coming early in every half.

Giroud and Leao delivered, with the latter’s goal being a sensational acrobat finish for his first goal of the year.

Mian’s new boy Pulisic, who has had a formidable performance since the start, was named in the visitor’s starting XI. In contrast, another new signing and Pulisic’s national teammate, Yunnus Musah, was again an unused sub.

While it had been expected to be a challenging game, Milan needed only eight minutes to have their opener.

An early chance from Ruben Loftus-Cheek was seemingly blocked away, but a VAR review ruled that goalkeeper Rui Patricio took down the ex-Chelsea man during the sequence. Much to Roma’s frustration, Giroud stepped up and scored from the spot, giving Milan the 1-0 lead.

Two minutes into the second half, Leao scored a stunner to double the lead. On a cross-in from Davide Calabria, the Portuguese winger could somehow hold off Gianluca Mancini while providing an acrobatic finish from just outside the six-yard box.

Things got heated and complicated for the Rossoneri when Fikayo Tomori was sent off in the 61st minute after picking up a second yellow card. However, the hosts could not take advantage as Milan held on for all three points.

A goal finally came for the host, and while it was late, it brought them hope for a comeback. The goal came from Leonardo Spinazzola in stoppage time, putting Milan in danger, with Roma getting several chances in the following minutes.

Fortunately for Milan, they survived and escaped with a massive early-season win.
