Morata set to sign with AC Milan

The Serie A club paid a $14.2 million release clause to Atletico de Madrid.

Morata, 31, will sign a four-year deal, earning up to $5.4 million per season until 2028.

AC Milan previously targeted Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, but both parties didn’t agree on the deal due to the commission of the player’s camp.

The Rosonerri club just dealt the loss of France striker Olivier Giroud, who moved to MLS and signed with LAFC.

Homecoming of sorts

Morata recently won the EURO 2024 title with Spain as the team captain.

Speaking at Sky Italy, the veteran striker said AC Milan legend and current director Zlatan Ibrahimovic convinced him to join the Italy giants.

“I was convinced by the trust of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the team, the coach,” he said.

This marks the return of Morata in Serie A after playing for Juventus.

His stint with Juventus earned him two Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia, and two Supercoppa Italiana.

“I can’t wait to start. Now I’m going on vacation because I have to be with my family who helped me so much. Otherwise, I would train tomorrow,” said Morata.

“Serie A treated me with incredible respect and I can’t wait to go on holiday to Italy and train with the team and get back to Serie A.”

“I know I have the best years of my career ahead of me.”
