It was a fortuitous moment for the Frenchman, as he won consecutive league titles for the first time in his career. A season before he lifted his first scudetto with the Rossoneri, Maignan gave Lille their first Ligue 1 title in over a decade.

Born in the French Guiana, Maignan began his career with Lille in 2015, after he failed to crack the first team of Paris Saint-Germain. After a combined eleven league appearances in his first two seasons, his big break came in the 2017-18 season when Marcelo Bielsa chose him over experienced Nigerian netminder Vincent Enyeama, where he picked up just five clean sheets in 34 matches as they barely survived relegation at 17th.

The following season, he recorded fifteen shutouts as he played a major part in their runner-up finish behind his former club PSG in the league, playing in every match and secured a Champions League place. In the curtailed 2019-20 season, he recored 12 clean sheets in 18 league matches as they missed out on the top three by just a point.

On his final season with Les Dogues, Maignan recorded a personal-best 21 clean sheets as Lille won the league on the final day, finishing a point above the dethroned PSG.

Milan purchased him for just €13 million soon afterwards, and he rewarded the Rossoneri with 17 clean sheets despite missing six matches due to his wrist surgery, with the last one on their away win at Sassuolo ended their eleven-year drought for the coveted Scudetto.

Internationally, he represented France for four matches, and was an unused goalkeeper for Les Bleus in the Euro 2022. He then played in friendly and two Nations League matches but only earned a clean sheet in the former.
