AC Milan Mike Maignan labelled ‘best in the world’ after wonder save against Ireland in the dying minutes to ensure a tight 1-0 victory at Aviva Stadium.
France has always been packed with talented goalkeepers who could easily been branded ‘world class’, and they may have found a worthy replacement for Hugo Lloris in the post with Maignan.

What happened?
A brave Irish side really pushed the 2018 World Cup winners to their limit during the Euro 2022 qualifying fixture of group B.
Benjamin Pavard pulled a wonderful goal but it was all thanks to the Rossoneri’s number one goalkeeper that France stood still through the very ending minutes.
Maignan made not one but two incredible saves in the dying minutes of normal time to ensure the score remained 1-0 to the visitors. The second save was even way more impressive than the first one.
A teasing corner from Cullen was met perfectly by Nathan Jones who headed powerfully into the top right hand corner. But somehow, Maignan flew across his goal and made an out-of-this-world finger-tip save to claw the ball out of the top corner.
It’s safe to say that all the French players owed the three points to the AC Milan goalkeeper, while Cullen and the rest of the 50,000 odd fans in the ground were left stunned by such Superman-like act.
The 27-year-old was mobbed by his teammates after the match as an act of recognition which ensured France’s 100% start to the Euro 2024 campaign.
What fans say about Mike Maignan?
Only good words from the fans for the former Lille goalkeeper following his fantastic performance.
“The best goalkeeper in the world at the moment.” One tweeted.
“That GK spot should be for Maignan, he’s currently the best French GK out there,” another wrote
“France would have won the World Cup with this guy.”
Maignan and AC Milan
The Cayenne-born star has had his starting games limited this season due to injuries.
The calf muscle issue forced Maignan to sit sideline for five months since last October, but fortunately, he returned on time to play full 90 mins in the return leg of Champions League round of 16 against Tottenham Hotspur.
Milan won Scudetto of 2021/22 season thanks to their number one keeper’s astonishing form with playing 32 league games, conceded only 21 goals while keeping 17 clean-sheet games.
