Antonio Mirante

Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 38 (born July 8, 1983)

Shirt number: 83

Country: Italy (uncapped)

At AC Milan since: 2021

Although he did not play in any competitive match at all in his first season, AC Milan’s Antonio Mirante is glad to remain for another season, having signed a new deal for the 2022-23 season.

His promising career as a shot-stopper was nipped in the bud even before he started his career with Juventus, in which he was subsequently sent on loan to Crotone and Siena.

Being with the Bianconeri meant that he plays second-fiddle to the great Gianluigi Buffon for most of his stint there, in which he only played seven matches in his four seasons there, all of which came in their lone Serie B stint in 2006-07 where they clinched the cadetto.

After their immediate return to Serie A, Juve loaned him to Sampdoria, with the Genoan club signed him on a permanent basis in the latter of his two-year stint. In 2009, he then moved to Parma where he played his best football, with 208 appearances in both the Coppa Italia and the Serie A until he left in 2015 following their bankruptcy.

It was in Parma where he became one of the elite penalty stoppers in the game, as he only lost thrice on eleven occasions where he saved a spot-kick. Also, it was also there that he earned the first ten call-ups for the Azzuri but he remains uncapped until now.

A three-season spell with Bologna followed by a three-year tenure of his own at Roma, where he played European football for the first time since his time with Sampdoria.

In 2021, Milan purchased Mirante as a contingency signing when their first-choice Mike Maignan was sideline following a wrist injury. Despite not appearing in all competitions, he claimed his first Scudetto of his career.
