With Divock Origi, AC Milan have found their best free signing since the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as they are gearing up for their defense of the Scudetto in the 2022-23 season. 

The Belgian international has vital experiences to bring at the San Siro coming from Liverpool, thanks to his ability to make instant impact off the bench. His game was made simpler thanks to his family pedigree, where his father is a striker for Oostende and Genk. 

Those were on point on his professional debut with Lille in 2013, having graduated from their academy and scoring on his debut as a super-sub, heading home a Dimitri Payet cross for a 1-1 draw against Troyes.  

The said clutch genes were also evident on his career with Belgium, where he scored thrice in 32 appearances. One of those was an 88^th-minute winner against Russia in the 2014 World Cup. However, he hasn’t appeared for the national team since Euro 2016, as he missed out on the next Euros, as well as their fourth-place finish in Russa 2018. 

Liverpool then came calling in 2014, where he had spent separate spells on loan, first back to Lille, and then to Wolfsburg in the 2017-18 season. 

After guiding the Bundesliga side to safety, Origi came back to Anfield as a better player in 2018, rediscovering his late-game heroics as he led the Reds to their first European Cup in fourteen years. He scored a brace in their second-leg comeback against Barcelona in the semifinal and found the net for the second in their 2-0 win in the final over Tottenham.  

In 2020, Origi featured in 28 Premier League matches, scoring four times as Liverpool finally won their first Premier League trophy, ending three decades of league title drought. His final season saw him win the EFL and the FA Cup, but saw his form dipped as he played his final match away at Southampton in the penultimate match of their Premiership season.
